On Monday, January 11, 2016, during 09.00 – 16.00 hrs., a team of Thai Artists in UNHCR’s Mission “Namjai for Refugee” Mr. Saharat Sangkapreecha and Miss Praiya Suandokmai, the popular Thai singer and TV star, led by the Camp Commander, visited Mae La camp to visit refugees and agencies working in refugee programs including COERR’s Livelihood Training Center. COERR livelihood program aims at training the young refugees liveskills to produce various food and non-food products for their consumptions and income generations. The team of Thai artists was interested in COERR’s soap and candle making activities and visited shops selling refugee-made clothes. The team also paid home visit to the EVIs (extremely vulnerable individuals), and listened to the assistance programs for the refugees in camp and joined the reception performance. At the end of the visit, the youth club members have presented their traditional Karen cloth bag to each visitor as souvenir.
On Wednesday, January 27th, 2016, during 17.00-18.00 hrs., Mr. Ben Juventino Mendoza, COERR Programme Director, Mr.Chumpol Manivongsiri, Deputy Programme Director, welcome Mr. James Lynch, UNHCR Regional Representative, Mr. David Kaatrud, WFP Regional Director for Asia and The Pacific and team on their visit to COERR’s programs for refugees in Mae La camp. Livelihood Training workshop such as soap and candle production, etc., along with Organic Farming have been among activities the visitors paid much attention to. On the occasion of their visit, refugee made traditional hand bags were presented to visitors as souvenirs.
